“Panto season’s not yet behind you!” with Chris Wiegand’s lovely review of the online version of ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’ from the Scarborough’s Stephen Joseph Theatre, starring our very own Jessica Dennis as Jack’s mum and that classic panto hero… John Stephenson.
The show was filmed in front of a socially distanced audience back in December, and is a “a proper winter warmer with some off-the-wall touches”. Chris goes on to describe the bond between Jacob Butler’s Jack and Jessica Dennis, as Jack’s Mum, as “tender but never over-sentimental”.
The show puts a fun spin on traditional pantomime. Keeping the classic ‘it’s behind you!’ moments, whilst also bringing in a bit of its own bonkers magic, including Spanish Guitar playing Hens, deadly Cranberries and school bullies.
The show is available online here until the 30th January.
