Produced for the BBC by Wireless Theatre Company, the play is an adaptation of the classic 1865 novella by Nikolai Leskov. It tells the story of a young woman in 19th-century Russia trapped in a loveless marriage, until her life is transformed by the arrival of an attractive philanderer named Sergei.
Jane Anderson at The Radio Times describes it as “a raw, visceral production that packs a belting emotional punch.”
